Award-winning journalist and interiors blogger Kate Watson-Smyth (a.k.a. Mad About the House) has truly taken the spot light in the world of interiors of late. Kate’s brilliant second book; Mad About The House: How To Decorate Your Home With Style has hit the ground running. The book is full of styling tips and a wealth of knowledge whether you have a single bedroom or a whole house to play with. Kate truly knows her colours with ideas to help find the perfect shade for your room.

Mad about your home
There’s no doubt that Kate is truly mad about her house and who would argue. Her 1860’s terrace, family home is nestled away in north London and full of character and personality.
Kate’s signature shades of grey fill the walls while white painted hardwood floors keep the rooms bright and airy. The Mad About The House blog is full of insights and images of all areas of Kate’s home. But it’s Kate’s recently redecorated bedroom that has blown us all away.
Kate recently decided to freshen up her bedroom and it all started with the arrival for her new bed. Back in 2014 Kate furnished her living room with a Haresfield sofa from Sofas & Stuff in deep grey velvet. The Haresfield is a wonderful modern take on the classic chesterfield sofa. We decided to gift Kate a piece to freshen up her bedroom. After browsing all of our designs, Kate settled on a King Size Rouen Bed in Linwood Moleskin Velvet in Bottle.
Bedroom talk
Rouen is a sumptuous piece with a wing back headboard, buttoned detailing and edged in brass studs. Kate selected a fabulous short pile velvet in a rich, bottle green shade, from one of our favourite fabric suppliers Linwood. Linwood have such a great range of colours in their velvets with stain resistant finishes on many. The finished piece is absolutely fabulous and a cosy haven to relax and unwind.
Kate has dressed her Rouen bed in white sheets to create a clean and fresh look. These sheets are by Rise & Fall, a new online company to the bedding game. They are keeping things simple and aim to provide the best white cotton sheets possible. Rise & Fall stock two styles of white sheets: Classic and Superluxe. The first a wonderfully crisp sheet that’s perfect for keeping you cool on these hot nights. The latter a satin weave creating a silk like handle perfect for snuggling into.
