On the sofa with Alana Miller

If you follow Alana Miller on Instagram, you’ll already be familiar with her beautiful, character-filled content that inspires thousands to bring personality and soul into their interiors. But behind the curated snapshots of her warm, inviting home, Alana is much more than a content creator — she’s the founder of her own interior design studio, Delve Interiors, a mum to two young boys, and a hands-on renovator of the Edwardian home she’s restoring with her husband, Stephen.

Over the past five years, Alana and Stephen have been lovingly transforming their home, stripping away the dated 1970s décor and breathing new life into the period property — all while blending their individual styles to create something truly personal and timeless.

We recently joined Alana for a cosy catch-up on the sofa to chat all things interiors — from her design philosophy to her favourite sofa moments.

What was it that first made you fall in love with interiors?

From as young as eight I had a notebook full of cut out interior design magazines and mood boards. I grew up working on construction sites within my family’s business and loved transforming homes.

Your home has such a unique and homely feel – what in particular makes the space feel truly ‘you’?

I love reading and historical architecture, both of which are a huge influence behind my interiors. I’m probably most well known for my moody colour choices but I also love adding a slightly whimsical feel to all my rooms.

Where do you turn to for creative ideas; is there a particular style or era that inspires you?

I have so many things I draw inspiration from! Historical fashion, architecture, novels, and nature is a huge one too. The Renaissance era probably has to be my favourite. The patterns, the colours and the beautiful art as well.

Whereabouts in your home do you feel the most relaxed – and what is it about the space that makes you feel this way?

My living room. I love how cocooning it is and it’s my absolute favourite place to grab a book and a coffee and just hide away for a while. It’s now had a significant upgrade with our beautiful new sofa!

The Helmsley sofa in V&A Threads of India Lahore Dynasty Corn looks perfect within Alana’s home.

Can you describe your ideal sofa moment — is it morning coffee, movie night, hosting friends?

100% a morning coffee before all the boys get up! The calm before the storm with just me and my coffee is definitely my favourite sofa moment.

You have recently opted for a new sofa in one of our V&A Threads of India fabrics, what was it that first drew you to this design, and how do you feel it connects with your interior style?

I loved all of the designs, it was so hard to choose just one! The Lahore Dynasty fabric in Corn was the final choice as it just complemented everything in my living room. I adored the intricate pattern mixed with the raw feel of the linen and the colour was just perfect too.

For someone trying to find their own interior style, where do you recommend they start – and what is your advice for building confidence in their choices?

I always say to start by creating a mood board, avoiding interiors based imagery as I feel like this can lead you down a trend led route. By picking out art pieces, abstract patterns or textures that you’re drawn to you can then start translating it into a functional interior space. It’s a much better way of creating a cohesive design as it’s more flexible than approaching it from an image of a finished room. That could confine the boundaries of the design and you may not end up with something that reflects what you love! By having a strong foundation to your design it helps give to confidence in any future decisions in the space.

Alana’s approach to interior design is a refreshing reminder that the most meaningful spaces are built from personal inspiration. As she continues to shape her own home with heart and intention, she encourages us all to do the same: trust our instincts, embrace the process, and create spaces that feel unapologetically like us.
