Drawn to intricate designs expressed simply though a single colour print?
Ferns Toile is an evocative monotone print, that is reminiscent of a toile de jouy. It celebrates the feathery, frond-like structure of ferns. The design has a fascinating, if rather modest origin. The print is taken from an illustration on the front cover of an early 20th-century plant catalogue from W. & J. Birkenhead, a specialist Fern Nursery from Sale, near Manchester, which for a time, was the biggest and best-known in the world. This lovely piece of ephemera opens a window onto the Victorians’ fascination with exotic ferns. Our design has brought it to light, creating a contemporary design, perfect for modern homes.
