We offer our customers the chance to upholster our British handmade furniture in any fabric in the world. We would like to introduce one of our favourite traditional British fabric suppliers; Colefax and Fowler. The collections are available at all our Sofas & Stuff showrooms and is one of many designer fabric houses in our extensive fabric libraries.
We choose our fabric houses carefully and Colefax and Fowler sits perfectly within Sofas and Stuff showroom fabric libraries. Drawing on quintessential English design Colefax and Fowler are known for creating fabrics that are perfectly suited to furniture in more rural settings. With designs suited to everything from cottages to castles however they would also be suited to any stylish interior.
The Colefax and Fowler design studio
Ensuring timeless elegance is key to the way that Colefax and Fowler work and produce their fabrics and patterns. Specialising in sophisticated designs created using advanced printing and weaving techniques their fabrics stand out while still utilising subtle colours.
The history
Founded in the 1930s by Sibyl Colefax who began as a decorator of friends and family homes. She then branched out to begin styling and decorating other people’s homes. When word of mouth spread this led to her business growing rapidly. She became a successful businesswoman and in 1939 decided to team up with John Fowler, an aspiring young rising star of interior decorating. The two of them then founded the company Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler which later became known as Colefax and Fowler.
The design firm today
In 2017 the company relocated its London showrooms to Pimlico Road. This placed them dead centre of the London decoration, design and antique quarter. With a combined experience of over 150 years of experience between them, the design team pride themselves on the quality of craftsmanship. The company continues the traditions established almost 100 years ago.
Colefax and Fowler Fabric Collections
Colefax and Fowler’s collections of fabrics draw on their many years of tradition and luxury. With everything from floral design to intricate paisley style patterns. The designs that Colefax and Fowler create aim more towards the traditional house and/or cottage. The designs help to bring history and a feeling of grandeur to any room.
Colefax and Fowler launch a new collection every year. With the new collection, they bring striking prints, silk and linen embroideries, luxurious velvets and weaves. However, they have also created incredible textured wallpapers which they match perfectly to their fabric and help to tie an entire room together.
What Sofas do we think suit Colefax and Fowler fabrics?
At Sofas & Stuff we believe that the intricate patterns of the Colefax and Fowler collections are suited to our high back sofas which help to show off the pattern such as our St Mawes and Petworth sofas. The sofas are traditional in shape with curved arms and high backs giving them presence within a room. This gives the St Mawes and Petworth the look and feel of a more traditional piece of furniture which will be complemented by a Colefax and Fowler fabric. However, the fabrics can also look great on any of our handmade collection of sofas and even on a bed.
